Host a Hive

Backyard Beehive Initiative

THE BEE BASICS:

  • Honeybees are the world's most important pollinator.

  • Bees pollinate 1/3 of the food we eat.

  • Honeybee colonies are in decline.

  • Humans have a huge impact on the health of the local honey bee population.

  • Find out how you can support the local honey bee population.

  • Practice caring for the earth community by re-engaging with the environment, taking responsibility for it, and practicing a sustainable lifestyle.

THE BEEHIVE PROGRAM:

 

  • Residents enroll in the residential beehive program for a small fee.

  • Consultation with resident takes place in March to identify best location for the hive.

  • Hives are placed in the resident's yard in April.

  • Monthly hive inspection takes place May-August.

  • Honey is harvested in July (residents receive extracted honey at end of Summer).

  • Hives are removed from the residents' yards in September.
